Its not that Deep.. Or is it?

“It's not that deep”, so they say but I am willing to write to you on a limb and suggest the complete opposite. For one, it is indeed that deep! But let me explain the “it” and the “depth”.

Have you ever found yourself meditating on a thought just a little too long, so much so it showed up in your dream? What about something really small like eating a sweet treat when you feel a bit of unmanageable pressure? Maybe it's something you said “ If I could always wear leggings and a tank, I would”. And days, weeks or even years later, you find yourself operating in a pattern that you once used for soothing, and now its coping mechanism for just about anything. I've been there, and I’m going to just assume that you have too..

Whatever the thought is, or the behavior or the action, that is the “it”. And when that “it” is planted, the seed takes roots. While we causally talk about the seed, it is the tree that we contend with and I can expressly understand and share the impacts of removing a tree rather than kicking away a seed.

In all honesty, I really want to share with you from one shameless leader to another, “our seeds matter”, therefore it is THAT DEEP! It is imperative that we consider the seed, the roots and the tree that springs forth. Therefore, I want to say this, it is always that deep. However, proximity and time matters. Rather you planted a seed of negative self talk, and others don't speak back to you negatively, but your friends or children do.. It matters, and that seed you planted took root and the tree is showing up those around you! Another thing to consider as a shameless leader, is spillover. How it shows up in our personal life, transfers over into our professional life. So here are a few tips I want to share with you to aid in your leadership, rather you are leading a small business, leading a larger department or purely leading yourself please take what you need and leave what you don't:

  1. Consider your habits: Your willingness to take inventory of your personal life, can be connected to the blueprint to resolve unmet needs.

  2. Consider the seed: Everything you do has a seed connected to it, if you do not like your current trees and roots in your life, grab your shovel and start digging up the seeds!

  3. Everything has an impact: Think of the ocean, everything in it, a boat, fish, human or sea creature, it's all a part of the ripples and waves. We are all interconnected, therefore everything you do has an impact. Critically think about how you impact the waves and ripples!

There is no need to finish this post and walk away feeling more shame, in fact we should feel empowerment. We have awareness, action steps and a community filled with shameless leaders just like you and me all on the same journey! Oh, and your willingness to change is THAT DEEP!
